Brand of saxophone?

Until end '99 it was a Yamaha YTS-2, but this one was replaced (after 20 years of loyal service) by a Yanagisawa T901.

More details: he plays with a jazz mouthpiece (Berg Larson 95) and a Rico Plasticover 3,5 reed.

Dirk Verbrugge (born in 1961, married, 1 daughter), starts his career at age 12 in the music academy of Asse playing the clarinet. Four years later he moves on to the baritone and tenorsax, and starts a long career in many brassbands (Zellik, Wolvertem, Vilvoorde...), bigbands (Moonflowers...) and other musical formations. Even a Tiroler-orchestra...  He also works his way up to the position of chairman of the Celiaband from Wolvertem.

From '93 to '98 he plays jazz with GB & Friends, after which he applies himself to the blues, also due to his first encounter with Bad Luke on stage in Wolvertem back in february '99. From that moment on he's been infected with what he calls the BL-virus, with many unwanted side effects.

dirk in action And how did this all get started?

- Dirk: "When I was about 14, I discovered my father's record collection, containing some great old jazzmusicians, like Sidney Bechet, Benny Goodman, Claude Lutter, etc... But it was especially the dixielandband 'The Dutch Swing College Band', with their leader at that time Peter Schilperoort who inspired me the most. By playing along with these records I learned the art of improvising. I still think today that the DSC-band is the greatest dixielandband around, and I really would like to start one day a formation like this".

The last couple of months he's been infected with another bacterium, called the Brian Setzer Orchestra fever. This isn't lethal though.
