And how did this all get
started?
- Dirk: "When
I was about 14, I discovered my father's record collection, containing
some great old jazzmusicians, like
Sidney Bechet, Benny Goodman, Claude Lutter, etc...
But it was especially the dixielandband 'The Dutch Swing College Band',
with their leader at that time Peter Schilperoort who inspired me
the most. By playing along with these records I learned the art of
improvising. I still think today that the DSC-band is the greatest dixielandband
around, and I really would like to start one day a formation like this".
The last couple of months he's been
infected with another bacterium, called the Brian Setzer Orchestra
fever. This isn't lethal though.
